Oregon Hurting Despite Big Victory

Oregon’s 58-3 victory over San Jose State came at considerable expense to the Ducks, who lost freshman tailback Herman Ho-Ching for four to six weeks because of a torn ligament in his left knee.

Ho-Ching, who rushed for 117 yards and three fourth-quarter touchdowns against Texas El Paso, suffered the injury on Oregon’s first offensive play, a six-yard run.

Additionally, receiver LaCorey Collins tore tendons in his right thumb and was scheduled to undergo surgery Sunday, and linebacker Peter Sirmon (shoulder) and defensive tackle Zach Freiter (ankle) left the game because of injuries.

Mississippi sophomore offensive lineman Terrence Metcalf, who started all 12 games last year, will miss the rest of the season after surgery to repair a fractured ankle. Metcalf broke his left ankle on the Rebels’ first offensive play in a 30-6 victory at Vanderbilt on Saturday.
