Former Kansas City Royal reliever Dan Quisenberry, 45, who had brain tumors removed earlier this year, was admitted to a hospital in Kansas City.

According to his family, Quisenberry is “resting in God’s peace.” He underwent surgery in January and June.

The three-time All-Star who used an unorthodox submarine pitching style, recorded 238 saves with the Royals from 1979 to 1988 and was 2-2 with one save in two World Series.

He still shares the team’s single-season saves record with 45 in 1983.

Somebody apparently tried to pressure Cincinnati manager Jack McKeon into ordering good pitches for Mark McGwire the last time the Reds were in St. Louis, McKeon said Tuesday.

McKeon said he was told of a threat--which did not come directly to him--but was purposefully vague about other details.

McKeon said that Kevin Hallinan, head of security for major league baseball, came to him in the dugout at Busch Stadium during the Sept. 4-6 series and said there had been a threat against McKeon and his family.

McKeon said he did not take the threat seriously.

McKeon said “a couple other people,” possibly players, mentioned getting threats. He declined any special security measures, and nothing came of the threat.

McGwire hit his 60th home run in the middle game of the series.

“It just so happened that we pitched to him, but that wasn’t the reason,” McKeon said.
