Woman Falls Into Family Pool, Drowns

A 72-year-old Moorpark woman drowned Thursday after falling fully clothed into the family swimming pool, authorities said.
Sophia Luzko was pronounced dead at Los Robles Regional Medical Center in Thousand Oaks, where she had been taken after being found about 4:30 p.m., Sheriff’s Deputy Anthony Aguirre said.
Luzko was found by her 8-year-old grandson, who had come home from school and spotted her from a kitchen window, Aguirre said. The boy ran to a neighbor for help.
It appears that Luzko either tripped or fell into the pool after some medical emergency, deputies said. It was unclear how long she had been in the water before being found.
Luzko lived in the 4000 block of Misty Hollow Court with her daughter, son-in-law and two grandsons, Aguirre said.
She was frail but enjoyed walking the family’s dog around the pool, deputies said.
Funeral arrangements were pending an autopsy.
