Readers Don’t Show Much Respect to Their Own

I had to laugh when I read Judith Roberts’ letter last week about the “disgusting lack of respect” the country has shown Sammy Sosa. When our soccer team plays a game in Latin America they get bags of urine thrown at them. And yet, one pampered multimillionaire getting fractionally less media attention than another constitutes “appalling racism.”

How annoying it must be to receive nasty little diatribes like that penned by Judith Roberts. She includes The Times in the list of culprits she judges as having shown “lack of respect [for] Sammy Sosa” and “appalling racism.”

What edition of The Times sports section are you reading, Judy? If it’s the same one I get, you learned that stuff about the stick bats and egg carton gloves there. Remember?
