* More than 300 guests, including Diane Keaton, Steve Martin, Garry Shandling, Betsy Bloomingdale and daughter Lisa Bloomingdale Bell, attended the Fine Art Dealers Assn.’s fourth annual Los Angeles Art Show on Sept. 10. The event, held at UCLA’s John Wooden Center, raised $20,000 for the UCLA Medical Center’s Medical Art Program. More than 1,000 original paintings and sculptures valued at about $50 million were featured at the event. The Medical Art Program, founded in 1990, supports the placement of artwork in public and patient-care areas of UCLA Medical Plaza to enhance the well-being of patients, their families, visitors and staff. Also attending the show and reception were Helene DesRuisseaux, deputy director of the UCLA Medical Center, Dr. Michael Karpf, hospital systems director of the medical center, and Howard Rehs, president of the Fine Art Dealers Assn.

* Emmylou Harris performed for about 500 guests at an Aug. 27 fund-raiser to benefit PeaceTrees Vietnam and Campaign for a Landmine Free Planet. The event, produced by LA Weekly and Wheat Productions and held at the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles, raised $15,000 toward eradicating land mines. A silent auction featured an autographed Gibson guitar of Harris’ and a pair of her boots.

* The Viva los Nin~os Committee and the March of Dimes raised about $40,000 at their third annual Hispanic Humanitarian Awards on Aug. 29 at the Regal Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles. KCBS-TV Channel 2 reporter-anchor Linda Alvarez, Gisselle Acevedo-Franco, an advocate for people with developmental disabilities, and David C. Lizarraga, president, chairman and chief executive of the East L.A. Community Union, were honored for their work with Latino communities. Singer Vikki Carr, honorary founder of Viva los Nin~os and first recipient of the award, made the presentations. About 280 guests attended the ceremony followed by a black-tie dinner and dancing. The money will be used for research, public and professional education and community service programs including Comenzando Bien, a prenatal education program for Latino families.
