Police are looking for a 51-year-old man they say inexplicably shot to death a longtime acquaintance last weekend in a Sun Valley neighborhood.

David William Forgus--who has numerous tattoos, a shaved head, a long goatee and glasses--could be facing his second strike, said Det. Vincent Bancroft of the Los Angeles Police Department’s North Hollywood Division.

“He has an extensive criminal history,” Bancroft said, declining to give further details.

Forgus’ alleged victim--Edwin Nava, 40--was killed Friday night while sitting in his vehicle in front of a residence in the 11100 block of Cantlay Avenue, according to authorities.

Prior to the shooting, Forgus had been in the car arguing with Nava, police said. He then got out, went to the residence--where he lived in a tent in the backyard--and returned with a gun, Bancroft said.

Forgus then shot Nava once in the upper torso and fled on a bicycle, police said. Nava was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives--who recovered a revolver at the scene Friday night--found the bicycle the next day at a residence in the 11300 block of Sherman Way, police said.

From that residence, Forgus--who had a wound to his left hand--was given a ride to the Hart Street and Simpson Avenue area of North Hollywood, Bancroft said.

Forgus could still be in the area because he is not known to have friends or relatives elsewhere with whom to seek refuge.

“He’s pretty much a loner,” Bancroft said. “He doesn’t have anywhere to go.”
