PEPPERDINE WOMEN’S SOCCER

* County connections: Kate Desmond of Mission Viejo, Sumon Nicole of Dana Hills, Yvonne Pierson of Edison and Clair Wels of Santa Margarita

* Worth noting: Desmond and Pierson, both freshmen, were Times Orange County all-county selections last year. Desmond had a goal and two assists in a recent 3-2 victory over Long Beach State, with Pierson adding a goal. Pepperdine lost to UC Irvine, 4-1, on Sept. 20. Nicole is a senior goalie, Wels a junior defender.

WESTMONT WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL

* County connections: Lara Childress and Tara Eversoll of Trabuco Hills, Wendy Wilkins of San Clemente, Lindsey Schuerman of Laguna Hills

* Worth noting: Wilkins, a junior outside hitter, leads the team in kills, aces and digs. Schuerman, a sophomore, and Eversoll, a freshman, share setting duties. Childress, a junior middle blocker, is second on the team in blocks.

* Appearing locally: Westmont, located in Santa Barbara, will play at Southern California College Oct. 6.
