After nearly four months of reviewing the city’s municipal code on campaign contributions, the City Council tonight will decide whether to repeal or revise a 6-year-old cap of $1,000 on individual contributions to local candidates.
Earlier this year, Councilwoman Shirley McCracken asked the council to consider repealing the city’s campaign-reform law because, she said, it puts an unfair burden on candidates who want to accurately and honestly report contributions. Last year, McCracken, Councilman Frank Feldhaus and Mayor Tom Daly faced misdemeanor charges for allegedly violating state and city campaign contribution laws. Daly’s case was dismissed; McCracken and Feldhaus paid fines.
The council meets at 5 p.m. in chambers, 200 S. Anaheim Blvd.
