4 Trails Being Added to Corriganville Park

Share

A California Conservation Corps crew began constructing four additional trails in 225-acre Corriganville Park last week, according to Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District officials.

The project should take about 30 days to complete, and park officials expect equestrians, hikers and mountain bikers to be using the multiuse trails sometime in May.

The new trails include:

* The 1.2-mile Loop Trail, which will encircle the large, landmark rock outcropping in the center of the park. The loop trail will be the backbone of the trail system, said Rick Johnson, who handles public relations for the park district.

* The steep half-mile Wildlife Corridor Trail, which travels through a tunnel beneath the 118 Freeway after climbing the steep hillsides of the eastern portion of the park.

* The Hummingbird Connector Trail, which will head west from the Loop Trail and connect with the Foothill Neighborhood Park. From there, hikers can reach the Hummingbird Trail by walking north on Kuehner Drive and crossing under the 118 Freeway.

* The 1-mile Stagecoach Trail, which roughly traces the path of the old Butterfield Stage Lines route from the late 1800s.

The project will cost about $43,500 and is partly funded by a National Recreation Trails Act grant of $21,745.

The park district and the city will fund the balance of the project’s expenses.
