Granada Hills Stays Unbeaten in Tennis

Lee Weinstein and Yuri Tsirulsky won their singles matches and Granada Hills swept three doubles matches as the Highlanders defeated El Camino Real, 5-2, in a Northwest Valley Conference boys’ tennis match Thursday at El Camino Real.

Weinstein, playing No. 1 singles, rallied to defeat James Magsino, 0-6, 6-2, 7-5, to improve to 8-0 this season. Tsirulsky, playing No. 4 singles, won 6-4, 7-5, to improve to 4-0.

The Highlanders are 10-0, 7-0 in conference play.

In other tennis action:

Chatsworth 4, Taft 3--The No. 1 doubles team of Davey Asao and Michael Kim defeated Yashar Parvin and Chris Yoon 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 for host Chatsworth in a Northwest Valley Conference match.

Westlake 12, Simi Valley 6--Philip Rothfritz of Westlake swept his sets against Tyler Jenson, Rudy Barajas and Max Nagler and the Warriors (10-0, 6-0) won a Marmonte League match at Rancho Simi Community Park.

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Poly def. Grant, 15-10, 15-6, 13-15, 12-15, 15-10--Alex Vallejo had 25 kills and Billy Cuevas had 22 kills for Poly (9-1, 6-1) in an East Valley league match at Grant that lasted 2 1/2 hours.

Garnik Martirosyan had 18 kills and Ryan Diaz had 17 kills for Grant (7-3, 5-2).

COLLEGE BASEBALL

Ventura 13, Bakersfield 2--Ricky Helland had three hits, including a two-run double and a home run, for host Ventura (18-12, 8-6) in a Western State Conference game.

Matt Alonzo contributed two hits, including a three-run triple, and Noah Lowry (1-2) allowed two runs, struck out seven and walked two in eight innings.

Cuesta 8, Pierce 7--A Pierce comeback fell short when Gene Holdgraffer struck out with the tying run on third base in the ninth inning of a WSC game between division leaders at Cuesta.

Holdgraffer had a home run and a single for Pierce.

Glendale 22, Hancock 8--John Campanella had a two-run homer, an RBI double and a bases-loaded walk for Glendale (14-18, 8-6) in a WSC interdivision game.
