Traffic to Be Routed Past Freeway Work

Those traveling through the west county at night should avoid Victoria Avenue this week.
Through Friday, traffic lanes under the Ventura Freeway at Victoria Avenue will be closed from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. as part of the ongoing city project to prepare the interchange for more drivers. At various times, lanes in both directions will be closed, but in one direction at a time. Specific days for each closure have not been determined, said Bob Stein of Boyle Engineering, the city-contracted firm for the project.
Stein said traffic will be rerouted so drivers can reach Victoria Avenue and surrounding areas. For drivers traveling north on Victoria from Oxnard, traffic will be rerouted onto the southbound Ventura Freeway to the Johnson Drive exit, onto the northbound Ventura Freeway, and off again at Victoria.
Southbound drivers on Victoria, driving toward Oxnard, will be rerouted to the northbound Ventura Freeway and off at the Telephone Road exit.
Stein said the detours will add five minutes of drive time, assuming night traffic is light. He also offered a third option: Use other routes such as Main Street, Telephone Road and Johnson Drive.
