Gordon’s Afternoon Is Grand
Jeff Gordon hit two home runs, including a grand slam, and drove in eight runs to lead Chaminade High past Burbank, 12-5, in a nonleague baseball game on Saturday at Chaminade.
Gordon, who also hit a triple and single, has 11 hits in his last 12 at-bats, including five home runs.
Jon Higashi had three hits and drove in two runs for Chaminade (15-4).
In other games:
Alemany 9-3, Saugus 5-6--Jesse Fernandez hit two home runs and drove in five runs for Alemany in the first game of a nonleague doubleheader at Saugus (9-10-1).
Fernandez hit a two-run home run, a solo homer and a two-run single.
Matt Sgro hit a double and a home run for Alemany (10-10).
Camarillo 19-11, Newbury Park 0-2--Mark Hensley hit three home runs, including two three-run shots in the first game, and drove in eight runs for the Scorpions in a nonleague sweep at Camarillo.
Hensley hit a home run and a run-scoring single in the second game.
Spencer Wyman had six hits for Camarillo (15-4) in the two games. Eric Foster drove in three runs in the second game, two on a home run.
Monroe 8, West Torrance 7--Ryan Ennis’ run-scoring single capped a five-run seventh and gave the Vikings a victory in a Redondo Union tournament game at Monroe.
Vladimir Rivas hit a two-run home run for the Vikings (6-12).
Kennedy 6, Torrance 3--Phil Avlas had three hits, including a two-run home run, for the Golden Cougars (11-12), and Jeremy Serr hit a home run and a double in a Redondo Union tournament victory at Torrance.
Rio Mesa 9, South Gate 6--Anthony Sanchez drove in the go-ahead run with a two-out single in the ninth in a Redondo Union tournament game at South Gate.
Sanchez, Richard Martinez and Isaac Romero each had three hits for Rio Mesa (16-6).
Village Christian 4, St. Anthony 2--Clint Hamblin (3-1) allowed five hits in five innings for the Crusaders (9-10) in a Mary Star of the Sea tournament game at St. Anthony (13-7).
Cornerstone Christian 14, Ojai Valley 0--Josh Miller (6-0) allowed one hit and struck out 10 in four innings for the Eagles (7-1) in a Condor League game that was called after five innings because of the 10-run rule at Ojai Valley.
