The City Council will receive an update from city staff Tuesday on the plan to cut costs on the proposed Metrolink commuter rail station project by building it in stages.

City staff met with Metrolink officials last week to devise a game plan for completing the project. The low construction bid came in at $2 million more than the city’s budget for the station.

The engineering firm that the city hired is reviewing the proposal and will chart the expected savings and timeline for the phased-in project, said Ken Montgomery, director of public works for the city.
