Amie Bonie, a retired salesman, died Monday at his Ventura home. He was 100.

Bonie was born on May 5, 1899, in Brattleboro, Vt., and was raised with two brothers and two sisters.

After his marriage in 1943, Bonie began serving in the Navy during World War II. After the war, he and his wife settled in Idaho.

His nephew, John Straus of West Springfield, Mass., said he and his brother loved visiting their aunt and uncle in Idaho during the summer.

“They treated us like kings,” Straus said. “We stayed in hotels, they gave us gifts, and we had such a good time.”

Straus attributes his uncle’s long life to the fact that he was very fun-loving and squeezed every bit of life out of those years.

When Bonie and his wife moved to Ventura 30 years ago, he worked for Harris Water Conditioning. By the time he retired, Bonie had been a salesman for 75 years.

Bonie is survived by his wife of more than 55 years, Luella, and their two nephews, John and Robert Straus.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in the chapel at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park in Ventura, with Deacon Roger Adams officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of Joseph Reardon Funeral Home, Ventura.
