The African Village Music Festival, this year a tribute to Congolese rumba star Franco, who died 10 years ago, bridges African, Cuban and Brazilian styles with the eight-piece band of Cuban percussion master Francisco Aguabella, the bata drum-powered vocal music of Brasil Brazil, and Paris-based Congolese rumba star Madilu “System” Bialu, backed by the Soukous Stars. The Ford’s upper stage will be cleared for those who can’t resist the beat (who can?) and need to dance.

At the 15th annual “Children’s Festival of the Arts,” families can see Armenian, Thai and African dance, watch a Russian vaudeville circus show, listen to kids’ pop artist Greggy Dee, see a puppet show and do all kinds of art activities, from mask- and hat-making to collage and painting.

Stomp around in an adobe pit and discover what hides under layers of soil in a make-believe archeology pit when the Rancho Los Cerritos Historic Site in Long Beach presents “Mud Mania: A Celebration of Adobe.” The day will also include relay races, tug of war and other muddy games plus some “clean” contests, crafts and games. The bluegrass band Silverado will perform.

10:30 am: Cars

The Museum of Flying may be dedicated to fancies of flight, but on Sunday, the vehicle du jour will be Ferraris. More than 50 of the exotic Italian automobiles will be displayed at the Ferrari Car Show of the Southwest Region Ferrari Car Club of America. Ferraris of all shapes and colors will be on display including some contemporary versions and some rare models from the ‘60s and ‘70s.

What’s up at the Hollywood Bowl, doc? Animated characters come to life when conductor George Daugherty--aided by animation and a large screen--and the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra perform “Bugs Bunny on Broadway IV.” Daugherty leads the orchestra in music that originally accompanied all of the Looney Tunes gang.
