Jaime Moreno’s penalty kick goal in the 58th minute at Washington broke a tie and D.C. United beat Columbus, 2-1, before 15,312 on Saturday for its third victory in a row.

D.C. has won four of its last five games.

Moreno’s opportunity came after referee Brian Hall ruled that Crew midfielder Jason Farrell roughly upended Marco Etcheverry in the penalty area. Replays indicated that Farrell never made contact, with Etcheverry either slipping on wet turf or stumbling over a waterlogged ball.

Miami 2, Chicago 1--Brazilian midfielder Welton scored in the second half and again in the shootout to lead the Fusion to a win at Chicago before 13,114.
