Stephanie Lynn Shea, the 21-year-old daughter of Mayor Christina L. Shea, was arrested Aug. 10 on suspicion of possessing and transporting methamphetamine.

Stephanie Shea had been pulled over by Irvine police for committing a traffic infraction in Woodbridge when they discovered she had a “small amount” of the narcotic in her vehicle, Sgt. Leo Jones said.

She was not found to be under the influence of the drug and was held a short time at the Irvine Police Department, Jones said.

Christina Shea said that her daughter was delivering the methamphetamine “for a friend trying to lose weight” and that her daughter feels terrible and embarrassed about the situation.

“It’s been a real trial for me and for her, and I know she feels very badly about it,” Christina Shea said. “It’s a stupid thing she did.”

Because police are still investigating the incident, they would not release further details. They have requested the Orange County district attorney’s office file charges. Possessing and transporting methamphetamine can be charged as felonies.

“It is a serious situation, as all drug offenses are,” Jones said. “But it’s not a large quantity or involved larger narcotics issues. This is, unfortunately, a pretty standard situation we find literally every day, even in Irvine.”
