Fox Scope Zooms In on Stewart’s Column

Share

Larry Stewart almost had me fooled into believing his weekly criticism of KTLA sportscaster Claudia Trejos had nothing to do with her gender, heritage, or any other sub-text. And then, as usual, he slipped up. “Her skills are so raw that she has to tape much of her commentary on highlights, while other sportscasters do it live,” Mr. Stewart wrote on Aug. 13. For the length of the six-plus years I spent working in local television in this city, Jim Hill prerecorded the narration to virtually all of his highlights at KCBS and then KABC, in order to sidestep his still amazing helplessness in correctly pronouncing athletes’ names and polysyllabic words. I don’t recall Mr. Stewart even once criticizing, explaining, or even noting Hill’s struggles.

Hang in there, Ms. Trejos. Firstly, you’re simply the latest victim of Mr. Stewart’s misuse of his column to fawn over his favorites and friends and punish his enemies. Secondly, you’re getting better at what you do, something that I cannot remember ever hearing someone say seriously about Mr. Stewart.
