Prokofiev’s “Peter and the Wolf” will be narrated by Emmy Award winner Joe Spano and presented by the Brentwood-Westwood Symphony Orchestra under the direction of conductor Alvin Mills. The program will include other works, among them Dmitri Kabalevsky’s Violin Concerto played by 13-year-old violinist Timothy Braun and the premiere of Los Angeles composer Marc Robson’s “Apollo Rising.”

3 pm: Cabaret

Sentimental and comical holiday favorites and original songs are on the bill in “A Holiday Cabaret” performed by a stellar lineup of musical theater and cabaret artists as a benefit for LA’s BEST, the after-school program that offers educational, recreational and enrichment programs to more than 10,000 area students ages 5 to 12. Among the cast: George Ball, Karen Benjamin, Alan Chapman, Bill Hutton, Dale Kristien, Amanda McBroom and many more.

8 pm: Jazz

Whether playing fusion, Brazilian music or straight-ahead in the style of his idol Wes Montgomery, guitarist Lee Ritenour has been acclaimed by fans and critics alike. This concert, which includes saxophonist Ernie Watts, drummer Dave Weckl, pianist Alan Broadbent, bassist Melvin Davis and others, will feature Rit in both acoustic and electric settings.

7:30 pm’: Comedy

David Brenner, the longtime comedian who became a fixture on “The Tonight Show,” appears at the L.A. Cabaret in Encino Sunday, preparing material for his upcoming HBO special, “David Brenner: Live and Dangerous.” (Brenner will also be at the Falcon Theatre in Burbank on Wednesday.)

all day: Museum

Have you been to the Skirball Cultural Center lately? The museum has redesigned its galleries and added more than 300 new objects. Among the new items: an early copy of the Declaration of Independence, Abraham Lincoln’s stovepipe hat and the original typescripts of Hitler’s Nuremberg Laws. The galleries, which will be rededicated Sunday, take visitors on a journey starting with the history of the Jews, through immigration to America, memories of the Holocaust and contemporary life.

2 pm: Jazz

When Washington Preparatory High School lost most of its instruments in a 1995 band room fire, the Los Angeles Jazz Society stepped in to raise the funds for replacements. The event, since repeated every other year, is now known as “Jazzgiving” and has totaled nearly a quarter-million dollars in funds and instruments for L.A. city school music programs. This year’s event includes performances from drummer Frank Capp’s Juggernaut big band with vocalist Ernie Andrews, pianist Gerald Wiggins’ trio, the Los Angeles High School of the Arts Jazz Choir directed by Pat Bass and a host of other musicians both young and old.
