Granada Hills Players Continue Success

Three singles players and three doubles teams from City champion Granada Hills High advanced to the round of 16 with victories in the City Section individual tournament Friday at the Warner Center Tennis Club.

The Highlanders’ Jasmin Dao, Kelley Takeshita and sister Tracey Takeshita advanced in singles.

Dao, the No. 7-seeded player, beat teammate Yuka Otaka, 6-0, 6-0. Kelley Takeshita defeated Flavia Buica of University, 6-1, 6-0, and Tracey Takeshita beat Diana Hernandez of Roosevelt, 6-1, 6-4.

The Highlanders’ Caryn Linder and Shannon Slotnick, the top-seeded doubles team, defeated Cathy De la Cruz and Julie De la Cruz of Monroe, 6-1, 6-2.

Sixth-seeded Robin Meselson and Michal Zeituni of Granada Hills beat Margarita Ansaldo and Christine Cho of Chatsworth, 6-2, 6-0, and the Highlanders’ seventh-seeded team of Andrea Blieden and Jennifer Steinberg defeated Hamilton’s Lauren Duran-Haley and Kate Linden-Kaye, 6-3, 6-1.

The only other singles player from the region to advance was third-seeded Diana Friedland of Van Nuys. She beat Michelle Nakata of Narbonne, 6-0, 6-0.

Doubles teams from the region that advanced were No. 8-seeded Valerie Mendoza and Claudia Perez of San Fernando, and Amy Pham and Helen Luu of Verdugo Hills.

The round of 16 is scheduled for Monday at the Warner Center. Quarterfinals are Wednesday.
