Ventura Facing a Two-Night Stand

Share

For Ventura High, the most difficult part of the schedule is straight ahead.

It’s where the Cougars face the possibility of playing perennial girls’ basketball powers Alemany and Buena on consecutive nights.

Ventura routed Hart, 85-45, on Thursday night in the Buena tournament at Buena High in Ventura.

Coach Gary Gray of Ventura put the lopsided victory in perspective.

“It’s only our second game of the year and we have a lot of things to do to get better if we’re going to compete against Alemany or Buena,” Gray said.

It would be difficult to judge by the way the Cougars (2-0), who face Alemany at 8:30 tonight, played against the Indians (2-2).

Ventura built a 25-2 lead by late in the first quarter and used its 13-player roster before halftime.

Alex Gientke, a senior who will attend Santa Clara, had 22 points, seven assists and five rebounds.

Kristine Gleisberg, a 6-1 senior who is headed to Oregon State, added 19 points.

Freshman guard Amanda Patton had 18 points for Hart.

In other games at Buena:

Alemany 67, Santa Clara 40--Kate Beckler scored 27 points for the Indians (3-0).

Newbury Park 64, Highland 45--Jessie Goddard and Rachel Hever each scored 12 points to help the Panthers (2-0) win.
