Residents who want to force the city to do another study on the environmental impacts of the Imperial Highway widening project will have to take the matter to trial. Both sides were unable to reach an agreement at a recent settlement conference, City Atty. Leonard Hampel said.
The mandatory settlement conference two weeks ago was helpful but not successful, Hampel said Tuesday at the City Council meeting. The details of the discussion, however, are confidential, he said. A court date has not been set.
Residents calling themselves Yorba Lindans for Responsible Planning filed a lawsuit last month alleging that the city violated state environmental laws by approving an incomplete environmental impact report.
Hampel has denied the allegations and said the city conducted the subsequent environmental study even though it was not required to do so.
Construction on the project is expected to begin in January or February, city officials said.
