The image of UCLA’s Kristee Porter making jump serves is not the image Pepperdine women’s volleyball players want to take into the off-season.
The Waves were 26-4, were unbeaten in the West Coast Conference and advanced to the third round of the NCAA tournament.
But behind Porter’s eight consecutive points on serve, UCLA eliminated Pepperdine by overcoming a 14-0 deficit in the third game of a 15-9, 15-12, 17-15 victory in the Central Regional at Penn State.
“It was not the way we expected to end our season,” Coach Nina Matthies said. “It seemed as if the momentum had turned in our favor in the third game.
“But we put together a tremendous season and our players should be proud of what they accomplished.”
