Socorro “Cora” Caro, the Santa Rosa Valley woman suspected of killing three of her sons, has been transferred from a hospital to County Jail, authorities said Tuesday.

Caro, 42, had been hospitalized at Ventura County Medical Center for an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. She was moved Monday to the medical ward at the county’s main jail in Ventura, authorities said.

“She is under close observation given her current medical condition, which is stable,” said Eric Nishimoto, a spokesman for the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department.

Nishimoto said Caro was awake and alert and able to walk with assistance.

Caro was arrested on suspicion of fatally shooting the boys, ages 5, 8, and 11, as they slept in the family’s home on Nov. 22, authorities said.

Prosecutors are expected to file criminal charges by Friday, when Caro is scheduled to be arraigned.
