Gugliotta Has Seizure After Suns’ Victory

Jason Kidd got his first triple-double of the season with 32 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists as the Phoenix Suns defeated the Trail Blazers, 110-102, at Portland, Ore. But the celebration was short-lived.

Phoenix forward Tom Gugliotta had a seizure on the team bus after the game and was taken by ambulance to Legacy Emanuel Hospital.

Gugliotta, who turns 30 Sunday, was in serious condition, said hospital spokeswoman Fran Woodcock. She gave no further details, saying doctors are “evaluating him.”

Phoenix, winning its second in a row for new Coach Scott Skiles, stayed in fourth place in the Pacific Division, 3 1/2 games behind the Lakers. Portland fell 1 1/2 games behind the Lakers at 18-6.

Damon Stoudamire had 22 points and Scottie Pippen 19 and 10 rebounds for Portland, which had defeated the Suns 13 of the previous 16 times, including a 3-0 sweep in the first round of the playoffs last season.

San Antonio 103, Boston 94--Tim Duncan scored 22 of his 30 points in the second half as the Spurs defeated the Celtics at San Antonio for the ninth consecutive time.

The Spurs, who have won three games in a row, connected on 42 of 54 free-throw attempts in a foul-plagued game that saw Boston commit 37 fouls. Eric Williams, Tony Battie and Calbert Cheaney fouled out and Antoine Walker was ejected with little more than five minutes remaining.

Boston lost its fourth consecutive game and for the eighth time in nine road games.

Orlando 112, Toronto 98--Rookie reserves Chucky Atkins and Corey Maggette each scored 16 points to pace the Magic past the Raptors at Orlando, Fla.

The Magic, which gave up 66 points in the first half, held Toronto to only 32 points in the second. Orlando scored 14 of the first 15 points in a decisive fourth-quarter run to take a 96-83 advantage. Toronto was only four of 19 in the fourth quarter.

Darrell Armstrong, who is the Magic’s leading scorer at 18.1 per game, scored all 13 of his points in the third quarter as Orlando rallied from an 11-point halftime deficit.

Philadelphia 77, Chicago 74--Eric Snow’s jumper with 15.3 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter and his subsequent outstanding defensive play lifted the 76ers to a three-point victory at Philadelphia.

Snow drove down the lane and sank a 10-footer to put Philadelphia ahead by two. Then, on the defensive end, he knocked the ball out of the hands of Ron Artest, who was driving for the tying basket. The ball hit off of Artest’s knee and bounced out of bounds.

Allen Iverson, who had 19 points, sank one of two free throws to put Philadelphia ahead by three with 7.9 seconds to go and Kornel David missed a desperation three-pointer.

Indiana 89, Utah 74--Reggie Miller scored 19 points and Sam Perkins added 15 at Indianapolis as the Pacers ended the Jazz’s seven-game winning streak.

Miller and Perkins fueled an 18-4 run to stretch a four-point edge to an 87-71 lead with two minutes left in the game. Perkins made two of his five three-point shots, and Miller scored on a fastbreak layup and a baseline drive.

Karl Malone scored 16 points and grabbed 13 rebounds and Jeff Hornacek added 15 points for Utah.

Charlotte 99, Cleveland 86--Eddie Jones powered the Hornets to their seventh consecutive victory by nearly outscoring the Cavaliers in the third quarter at Charlotte, N.C.

Jones had 14 of his 17 points in the third quarter, when the Hornets outscored the Cavaliers, 29-15, on the way to improving to 11-1 at the Charlotte Coliseum.

The Hornets were able to exploit Cleveland’s overmatched inside game with repeated drives to the basket, leading to a 28-of-35 performance at the free-throw line by Charlotte.
