Rosary Beats Long Beach Poly for Artesia Tournament Title

Jenise Karcher and Jen Farner each scored nine points to lead Rosary to a 43-39 victory over Long Beach Poly in the championship game of the Lakewood Artesia girls’ basketball tournament Wednesday.

Rosary (10-1) never trailed and took a 10-point lead in the fourth quarter. Farner had 15 rebounds.

Raiven Victor scored nine points to lead Long Beach Poly (8-2).

The Royals are ranked 10th in Orange County. Rosary’s Maggie Barnett was the tournament MVP.

In other Artesia tournament games:

Long Beach Wilson 69, Pacifica 47--Dawn McCullough scored 29 points for Wilson (9-3), which went on a 17-7 run to start the game and made 21 of 25 free throws in the third-place game. Diana Barreras scored 21 points for Pacifica (3-6).

In consolation games:

Calvary Chapel 60, Alhambra 56--Lindsey Richelli had 17 points and seven rebounds and Richel Werdel and Shayna Fabre had 13 points each for Calvary Chapel (5-4).

Costa Mesa 58, Montebello Schurr 48--Autumn Smith had 24 points, nine rebounds and eight blocked shots for Costa Mesa (6-4). Nancy Hatsushi had 12 assists and 11 points and Jenny Earnest had 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Mustangs.

In the Large Schools Division final at the Santa Barbara Tournament of Champions:

Ventura 49, Esperanza 33--Oregon State-bound Kristine Gleisberg scored 19 points for Ventura (8-0), which held Esperanza to 24% shooting from the field. Lindsay Helvey scored 11 points for Esperanza (7-2).

In nonleague games:

Faith Academy (Philippines) 52, Canyon 48--Trish Christian had 20 points, nine steals, four assists and nine rebounds for the host Comanches (4-6). Julie Stauffer scored 22 points to lead Faith Academy, which went on a 21-9 run in the fourth quarter.

Santa Ana Valley 51, Los Amigos 36--Santa Ana Valley pulled away in the second quarter, outscoring Los Amigos, 15-9, and the Falcons never trailed in the second half. Crystal Davis had 14 points and 11 rebounds for visiting Santa Ana Valley (7-3).

Sunny Hills 41, Norwalk Glenn 35--Jasmine Raphael had 10 points and 14 rebounds for Sunny Hills (4-7).
