Boulevard Repaving Plan Stalled

TIMES STAFF WRITER

Dear Traffic Talk:

A couple of years ago, I was told Burbank Boulevard between the Burbank city line (Clybourn Avenue) and Lankershim Boulevard was on the “A list” and would be repaved as soon as some scheduled storm drain work was completed.

I have lived in this area for more than 50 years and do not remember any work being done. Are there any plans to finally fix this part of Burbank Boulevard?

Dear Irehne:

There are indeed plans and funding to fix that portion of Burbank, but they are on hold. The city must first build a sewer interceptor to collect sewage and deliver it to the appropriate destination, said Lionel Citizen, general superintendent of street services for the Los Angeles Public Works Bureau.

The area is scheduled to be repaved in late 2001 or early 2002, Citizen said.

Dear Traffic Talk:

Lately I have noticed many large trucks, delivery vehicles and armored cars parked in the middle of the street. When was the law changed to allow this type of parking? This is very common on Ventura Boulevard and elsewhere.

Dear Kenneth:

That kind of parking is still not legal but it is common, said Los Angeles Parking Administrator Jim Sherman. There are a few city locations where motorists may park on the center median, he said.

This kind of parking is dangerous because drivers risk being rear-ended, Sherman said, and when they step out of their cars there is little protective space between them and traffic.
