FIRST TEAM

Quarterback: Gary Beban

UCLA, 1965-67. Beban is UCLA’s only Heisman Trophy winner. A gifted passer and solid runner, he won the award in 1967. He is a charter member of the UCLA Hall of Fame. He led the Bruins in passing and total offense in his three-year career.

Tailback: O.J. Simpson

USC, 1967-68. He won the Heisman Trophy in ’68. He ran with power and had the speed of a sprinter, which he was. A two-time All-American, he broke or equaled 19 NCAA, conference and USC records.

Fullback: Bob Davenport

UCLA, 1953-55. He was the first Bruin football player to to earn back-to-back All-American honors, in 1954 and 1955. He scored 25 touchdowns in 26 games during his career.

Wide receiver: J.J. Stokes

UCLA, 1991-1994. He was a consensus All-American as a junior in 1993, when he set a school record with 82 catches. He set a Rose Bowl record in the 1994 game with 14 catches for 176 yards.

Wide receiver: Keyshawn Johnson

USC, 1994-95. He set Cotton Bowl records for receiving yards, 222, and touchdowns, three, against Texas Tech in 1995. In the 1996 Rose Bowl game, he set another record with 216 receiving yards.

Tight end: Tim Wrightman

UCLA, 1978-81. He was UCLA’s leading receiver in 1979 and an All-American in 1981. He finished his Bruin career with 73 receptions, No. 2 on the all-time list at the time.

Tackle: Jonathan Ogden

UCLA, 1992-95. Ogden was a four-year starter at left tackle and a winner of the 1995 Outland Trophy, presented to the nation’s top interior lineman. He did not allow a sack as a senior and only one his final two years.

Tackle: Ron Yary

USC, 1965-67. He is the only USC player to win the Outland Trophy. He was also a two-time All-American and a unanimous selection in 1967.

Guard: Jim Salsbury

UCLA, 1951-54. A four year letterman, Salsbury earned All-American honors on UCLA’s national championship team in 1954. He was a dominating blocker.

Guard: Brad Budde

USC, 1976-79. Budde won the Lombardi Award in 1979 given to the nation’s top college lineman. A four-year starter, he was the first freshman to start a USC season opener since World War II.

Center: Tony Slaton

USC, 1981-83. It was said Slaton could make blocks that were considered impossible to make after centering the ball.

Kicker: John Lee

UCLA, 1982-85. Lee held NCAA career records for field goals, 85, and accuracy, .850. He finished his UCLA career as the all-time Bruin scorer with 390 points.
