LaVar Arrington, who helped lead Penn State to an Alamo Bowl victory, appears ready to leave school a year early for the NFL.

The junior All-American and winner of the Butkus Award as the nation’s top linebacker is expected to announce soon if he will make himself available for the draft in April.

His mother, Carolyn Arrington, told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette her son will say this week he is leaving Penn State. She said the announcement will come at his high school--North Hills High in Pittsburgh.

Tennessee quarterback Tee Martin is recovering from the viral infection that struck him and several members of his family but says he’ll be ready for his final collegiate game Sunday night against Nebraska in the Fiesta Bowl at Tempe, Ariz.

“I’m feeling good,” Martin said. “I have a lot of my strength back, a lot of my enthusiasm back. I’m not down. My eyes are opening. My eyes were kind of closed and my throat was hurting a couple of days ago, but now I’m fine. I feel I can go out there and practice and do a lot more.”
