Kaatz, Brown Lead Marina Past Estancia

Dustin Kaatz scored 30 points and Beau Brown had 27 as Marina defeated Estancia, 75-71, in the final of the Estancia boys’ basketball tournament Thursday.

Kaatz scored 15 points in each half and was 12 for 14 from the line. Brown made four of his six three-pointers in the opening half as the eighth-ranked Vikings (14-2) took a 44-30 lead.

Estancia (10-5) trailed by 14 entering the final quarter, then outscored Marina, 26-16. Jason Simco scored 21 points and Jon Cantrell had 16 for the Eagles.

Corona del Mar 70, Trabuco Hills 58--Kevin Hansen scored 28 points for Corona del Mar (11-4). Teammate Judd Hietbrink added 10 points and the Sea Kings shot 79% from the free-throw line. Brennon Martin made eight three-point shots to score 24 points for Trabuco Hills (6-8).

In a consolation game:

Edison 53, Seattle Roosevelt 33--Kyong-Su Min scored 16 points to lead Edison (7-6) to a fifth-place finish. Edison trailed at halftime, 22-19, but went on a 12-4 run in the third quarter to pull ahead. Steve Henderson and Matt Gonzales each scored nine for the Chargers.
