Chelsea Mackey led four UC Irvine players in double figures, scoring 13 points as the Anteaters routed winless Rhode Island, 80-54, Thursday at the Bren Center.
Mackey made five of five shots and had a team-high eight rebounds. Brandy Hudson and Jeanine Horton each had 11 points and Wendy Gabbe had 10.
The victory gives Irvine (7-3) its best start since the 1994-95 season, when the Anteaters made the NCAA tournament.
Point guard Megan Stafford, playing despite the flu, had nine points, all in the first half. Rhode Island (0-10) led, 13-12, when Hudson scored off a rebound and was fouled. The three-point play started a 12-0 Irvine run.
