Toshiye Fujii of Ventura died Sunday at Santa Paula Hospital after a brief illness. She was 79.

Fujii was born Sept. 15, 1919, in Parlier, near Fresno. She attended high school in Hiroshima, Japan, before returning to California in 1937.

She married Hitoshi Fujii in Gardena in 1947. They lived in Torrance, where their children were born, before moving to Ventura County, where she lived for 36 years.

Fujii was a homemaker and active in the Oxnard Buddhist Women’s Assn. and the Ikenobo Ikebana Society. She was an active member of the Oxnard Buddhist Church and, in her later years, was a part-time real estate agent in Ventura County.

In addition to her husband, Fujii is survived by sons Dennis of Downingtown, Pa., and Stanley of Ventura, and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Noboru and Kazuo Maruyama.

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Oxnard Buddhist Church, 250 South H St., with the Rev. Kakei Nakagawa officiating. Private inurnment will be held at Green Hills Cemetery, San Pedro.
