Man Denies Killing His Political Rival

Byron (Low Tax) Looper pleaded not guilty in Crossville, Tenn., to charges of killing his political rival, state Sen. Tommy Burks, two weeks before the fall election. Looper, the former county property assessor, was arrested days after Burks, 54, was killed by a single gunshot at his farm. Looper, 34, remains held without bond until prosecutors decide whether they will seek the death penalty.
