Chapman Wins, Evens Season Series With La Sierra

Chapman, avenging one of its worst losses of the season, defeated La Sierra, 66-51, in nonconference men’s basketball Thursday at the Hutton Center.
The Panthers (15-9) had lost to the Golden Eagles, 71-54, last month. This time, however, Chapman opened the game with a 24-12 run and ended the first half ahead, 46-22.
Sophomore Tim Werdel, who only missed one shot all night, had 15 points to lead Chapman. Werdel, who’s ranked 17th nationally in three-point shooting in Division III, hit two of three from beyond the three-point line.
Patrick Henry scored 31 points for La Sierra (4-17).
In nonconference softball:
Simon Fraser 8-3, Concordia 0-2--Concordia lost its two season-opening games to visiting Simon Fraser of British Columbia, giving up a total of 16 hits.
In nonconference men’s tennis:
Southern California College 9, California Baptist 0--Stefan Johansson and Peter Skrzezcynski won in singles, then teamed up for an 8-6 victory in doubles to lead Southern California College (3-0).
