Washington’s hopes of returning to the NCAA tournament were dealt a serious blow Saturday night in a 94-81 loss to Oregon at Eugene, Ore.

Washington, 15-8 overall and 8-5 in the Pacific 10, had won five in a row and eight of nine to climb into consideration for an NCAA berth but had problems defensively in a second half in which Oregon (13-9, 5-8) scored 50 points.

Todd MacCulloch, who helped the Huskies reach the NCAA’s round of 16 last season, had 26 points and 12 rebounds, but made only seven of 15 shots--well off his nation-leading accuracy of 69.4%--and 12 of 20 free throws.

Donald Watts and Senque Carey had 18 points each for Washington, which has games remaining against Stanford, California, USC, UCLA and Washington State.

Oregon had five double-figure scorers, led by Darius Wright with 17 points. Tarik Brown had 14 points to become the 20th Oregon player to score 1,000.

No. 10 Arizona 78, Louisiana State 71--Jason Terry scored 25 points, making seven of 13 three-point shots, to lead the Wildcats (18-4) to their 28th consecutive home victory at Tucson.

Louisiana State (10-12) lost its sixth game in a row.

Oregon State 83, Washington State 64--Jason Heide scored nine of his 20 points in a decisive 20-8 run in a six-minute stretch of the second half for the Beavers (12-10, 6-7 in the Pacific 10) at Corvallis, Ore.

Oregon State is 11-1 at home.

Washington State (9-15, 3-10) got 22 points from Eddie Miller.
