The process of bringing the city’s 60 computers into Y2K compliance is nearly complete, City Administrator Robert D’Amato said. The city already has invested $48,500 from the general fund to reprogram the computers to read the year 2000.
D’Amato said that the city, concerned about payroll and police records on computer, formed a Y2K Compliance Committee last year and hired Knowles/McNiff Municipal Information Technology Consulting of Lakewood to reprogram the mainframe computer. “We wanted to make sure that we were in compliance,” D’Amato said. “We certainly don’t want to be doing this Dec. 31.”
