Back-Bay Hero

I was happy to read Dana Parsons’ column Jan. 13 reminding us that Bob Caustin is the person we all need to thank for challenging the Irvine Ranch Water District in its attempt to get a permit to pump millions of gallons of treated sewage into Upper Newport Bay.

We were all outraged at the idea that the water district would even think of doing such a thing to our beautiful, pristine bay, but we couldn’t imagine how we could stop it.

Caustin took action and assembled a group called Defend the Bay, which took the water district to court and won.

The water district’s permit to discharge the treated water into the bay was revoked by a Superior Court judge a few months ago.

Caustin is a real hero.
