Michigan State Wins Share of Big Ten Title

Michigan State clinched at least a share of the Big Ten regular-season championship Thursday night as Mateen Cleaves scored 19 points in the fourth-ranked Spartans’ 73-58 victory over Michigan at Ann Arbor, Mich.

The Spartans, 24-4 overall and 13-1 in the Big Ten, who extended their school-record winning streak to 13 games, can win the title outright by winning one of their final two games, against Wisconsin or Purdue.

Louis Bullock had 15 points for Michigan (10-16, 4-9), which was held to 39% shooting.

No. 7 Stanford 89, Washington 57--Mark Madsen scored 15 points and Kris Weems and Arthur Lee each had 14 for the Cardinal in a Pacific 10 game at Seattle.

Stanford (21-5, 11-2) posted its biggest win ever over the Huskies in Seattle. It was the first loss at home for Washington (15-9, 8-6).

No. 8 Arizona 89, Oregon State 72--Jason Terry had 21 points in a Pac-10 game at Tucson, Ariz.

Arizona (19-4, 10-3), won its 29th in a row at home.

Oregon State (12-11, 6-8) fell to 0-7 on the road in the Pac-10.

No. 12 Utah 71, San Jose State 49--Tony Harvey scored 17 points and Andre Miller added 15 in a Western Athletic Conference game at San Jose.

Hanno Mottola added 13 points for Utah (21-4, 11-0). Will Trawick scored 14 points to lead San Jose State (11-13, 4-7).

OTHER GAMES

Chris Crosby scored 15 points as Washington State (10-15, 4-10) beat California (14-9, 5-8), 79-73 in a Pac-10 game at Pullman, Wash. . . . Terik Brown tied his season high with 23 points for Oregon (14-9, 6-8) in a 76-75 Pac-10 victory over Arizona State (13-12, 5-8) at Tempe, Ariz.

Chamique Holdsclaw scored 25 points to lead No. 1 Tennessee to an 89-53 win over Vanderbilt at Knoxville, Tenn. . . .
