Kinney’s 223 Secures 15th Place
Lee Kinney of Sylmar finished in 15th place in the Los Serranos Classic with a three-round total of 223 after the final 18 holes Friday at Los Serranos Golf Course in Chino Hills.
Kinney fired a three-over-par 74 after shooting 74 and 72 the first two rounds.
The 54-hole tournament, a TearDrop Tour event, was won by Ted Oh of Las Vegas. He shot 68-69-75 for 212, one stroke better than Mark Johnson of Helendale and five strokes ahead of former Oxnard resident Tom Stankowski of Arroyo Grande, who tied with two other players for third place at 217.
FOOTBALL
Former San Fernando High and California running back Chris Richards has been hired as defensive coordinator at Monroe High.
BASKETBALL
Simi Valley residents Shelly Osmun, Natalie Murvin and Krissy Wintner, sisters Kelly and Kate Beckler of Granada Hills, and Oxnard residents Amber Madrid, Maribel Ambriz and Jacqui Heck will compete in the Southern California regional finals of the Nike/Lady Foot Locker 3-For-All basketball skills competition for girls Feb. 28 at USC.
The area qualifiers will be among a field of 57 in three age groups to advance out of local competitions. Players were judged in timed dribbling and timed shooting and in free-throw shooting, and were given an overall score based on their performances in the three events.
Winners of the Southern California regional event will compete in national finals April 17 in Orlando, Fla.
BASEBALL
