Even Jason Terry, who has become quite adept at making game-winning shots this season, was beginning to wonder if he could pull eighth-ranked Arizona out of trouble against Oregon on Saturday at Tucson.

“This time I had some doubts at the end of the game if we were going to win,” said Terry said after the Wildcats escaped with a 92-86 victory. “They were calling a lot of fouls, and Oregon was making their free throws.”

But, as usual, it was Terry to the rescue.

The senior point guard, the Pacific 10’s scoring and assist leader, had 13 of his team’s last 19 points, including a go-ahead three-point basket with 1:20 left.

“I knew if I can get the ball in my hands in the last couple of minutes, we have a chance,” said Terry, who has scored the deciding points in five games. “I want the ball for the last shot and the game on the line.”

Terry finished with 32 points as Arizona, 20-4 overall and 11-3 in the Pacific 10, won its 30th consecutive home game and 14th in a row over Oregon (14-10, 6-9).

Four players accounted for all but one of Arizona’s points, while Oregon had four double-figure scorers, led by A.D. Smith’s 18 points.

Fifty-three fouls were called, with the Wildcats making 31 of 40 free throws and the Ducks 22 of 24.

“We had the opportunity to succeed and we were right there the last couple of minutes of the game,” Oregon Coach Ernie Kent said. “But the difference is Terry. He made the plays that he needed to for Arizona.”

Terry had a career-high 37 points in Arizona’s 85-83 victory at Oregon last month.
