Led by Dreyfuss in ‘Lansky,’ Movie Lineup Features Well-Known Stars

Richard Dreyfuss, Whoopi Goldberg, Burt Reynolds and Donald Sutherland are among the stars featured in movies this weekend.

Dreyfuss plays the legendary gangster Meyer Lansky in HBO’s biopic “Lansky,” Saturday at 8 p.m. David Mamet wrote the script for the period drama that also stars Eric Roberts as Bugsy Siegel and Anthony LaPaglia as Lucky Luciano.

ABC’s “The Wonderful World of Disney” presents the Oscar-winning 1989 box-office hit “The Little Mermaid,” Sunday at 7 p.m.

Reynolds returns as veteran ex-cop/ex-con Logan McQueen in TNT’s action-thriller “The Premonition,” Sunday at 8 and 10 p.m. and midnight. Charles Durning and Bruce Dern also star.

James Earl Jones headlines a coming-of-age drama, “Summer’s End,” Sunday at 8 p.m. on Showtime, marking the feature film directorial debut of actress Helen Shaver.

Goldberg, Tina Majorino, Martin Short and Ben Kingsley are among the stars of “Alice in Wonderland,” a lavish, three-hour retelling of the classic Lewis Carroll fantasy, Sunday at 8 p.m. on NBC.

Donald Sutherland and Matthew Fox star in the CBS drama “Behind the Mask,” Sunday at 9 p.m. Based on a true story, the film tells the story of one man’s search for his father and another man’s search for his father’s love.

Six members of the Van Dyke family appear on CBS’ “Diagnosis Murder,” tonight at 8, in an episode written by Barry Van Dyke, who plays Lt. Sloan.

Jerry Mathers, “The Beav,” guests on ABC’s “Vengeance Unlimited,” tonight at 8.

Dr. Benton (Eriq La Salle) goes to Mississippi to work at a small clinic during his vacation on NBC’s “ER,” tonight at 10.

Bette Midler, Katie Couric and a mystery guest help Rosie O’Donnell celebrate her 500th installment of “The Rosie O’Donnell Show,” Friday at 3 p.m. on NBC.

Olympic silver medal figure skater Michelle Kwan guests on ABC’s “Sabrina, the Teenage Witch,” Friday at 9 p.m.

Country singer Billy Ray Cyrus appears on UPN’s “Love Boat: The Next Wave,” Friday at 9 p.m. Original “Love Boat” star Ted Lange directs.

Gonzo journalist Hunter S. Thompson wrote the latest installment of CBS’ “Nash Bridges,” Friday at 10 p.m. Thompson is a good friend of star Don Johnson. World Wrestling Federation’s Steve Austin guests as an undercover cop.

“Days of Our Lives” stars Deidre Hall and Drake Hogestyn host “The 15th Annual Soap Opera Awards,” Friday at 9 p.m. on NBC. The ceremony will be telecast from the Universal Amphitheatre.
