The City Council on Tuesday night honored Josephine Tsou with a commendation from Mayor Harry Dotson on the occasion of her 100th birthday, Jan. 23. Tsou was born in China and has been a Stanton resident since 1987. She graduated from Peking University with a degree in economics and was a teacher in China until she fled during the Communist takeover.

“Josephine Tsou has lived during the most eventful century of this world’s history,” Dotson said.

Due to illness, Tsou was unable to receive the award in person. Her granddaughter Carol Shiao accepted on her behalf.
