Warriors Upset by University

Jeff Horowitz scored a goal in each half and Matt Murray had 12 saves as host University beat top-ranked Woodbridge, 2-0, in a nonleague boys’ soccer game Monday.

University’s Murray earned his fourth shutout of the season.

Ashkahn Moayedi had five saves for the Warriors (12-1). University is 7-4-1.

In other nonleague boys’ soccer:

No. 7 Capistrano Valley 1, No. 9 Brea Olinda 0--Jackson Petry’s first-half goal was the difference for Capistrano Valley (9-3-3). Mark Becher had six saves for Brea Olinda (11-1).

Kennedy 2, Rancho Alamitos 1--Alvin Alvares scored the winner for Kennedy (9-2-1) in the 71st minute on a direct kick.

Orange 6, Buena Park 1--Ian Duncan had four goals to lead Orange (4-3).

Westminster 5, Montclair Prep 0--Five Westminster players scored at Montclair Prep. Kurt McGowan had two assists for Westminster, which took 32 shots.

Los Amigos 1, Century 1--Jose Torres scored for Los Amigos and Alex Gutierrez had a goal for Century.

Francisco Guillen had eight saves for Los Amigos (5-3-1).

Century is 5-3-4.

In nonleague girls’ soccer:

No. 5 Woodbridge 2, Dana Hills 0--Julie Hunter had two goals in the second half to lead visiting Woodbridge.

Laguna Beach 8, Rancho Alamitos 1--Brynne Yamamoto scored five goals for Laguna Beach.

In nonleague boys’ basketball:

Corona del Mar 72, Mission Viejo 59--Brandon Crosby had 19, Dennis Alshuler 17 and Kevin Hansen 16 for host Corona del Mar (12-4), which outscored Mission Viejo by nine in the second quarter to open a 38-25 lead.

Edison 72, Woodbridge 65--Edison was 11-12 from three-point range in the first half as the host Chargers built a 46-25 lead.

Mike Sperber had a career-high 26 points for Edison.

Magnolia 46, Saddleback 28--Freshman Geoffrey Clayton scored 17 points and teammate Stia Asoua added 11 for Magnolia (8-8).

Artty Upattiya added 10 points and Sohayl Saboori had 10 rebounds to go with his six points also for Magnolia.

San Clemente 80, Capistrano Valley Christian 64--Ben Straley (26 points) had eight three-pointers for the Triton teammate Mitchell Pierce had 21 points, nine assists, and four steals.

James McChessney had 20 points to lead visiting Capistrano Valley Christian.

Santa Ana 63, Anaheim 41--Rene Cabrera led Santa Ana with 20 points and teammate Chris Galvan had 15 points and eight rebounds to help the Saints.

Trabuco Hills 89, Savanna 88 (2 OT)--Freshman Aaron Tudor made four free throws in the second overtime to seal the victory for Trabuco Hills. Brandon Martin had 21 points and 14 rebounds and Brendan Casey had 25 points to lead Trabuco Hills (10-5).

In nonleague girls’ basketball:

Bolsa Grande 73, Laguna Beach 60 (OT)--Bolsa Grande played a strong defense and outscored Laguna Beach, 17-4 in overtime.

Debby Vader had 22 points and teammates Terra Mucha and Kim Cruz had 16 points to lead Bolsa Grande (4-10).

Esperanza 49, Diamond Bar 42--Bethany Blair scored all of her five points in the third quarter and had a game-high nine rebounds for Esperanza (10-5). Alison Gerber led the Aztecs with 13 points.
