Fountain Valley canine unit Senior Officer Kevin Childe and Hank the Wonder Dog will be retiring this month after five years of service. Childe will be reassigned to a patrol position. But Hank, who suffers from arthritis in his back, will be ending his career in law enforcement at the ripe age of 7.

Hank’s accomplishments include locating 100 felony suspects and 3,000 pounds of narcotics. He suffered only one injury in the line of duty: a bloody nose in a scuffle with a suspect. There will be no tearful goodbyes between these partners. Hank will become Childe’s house dog. A new canine officer and dog will be selected for a replacement team.
