Dead Woman Found Near Freeway Was Beaten
A woman whose naked body was found last week near the San Diego Freeway was beaten to death, police said Tuesday.
Caltrans workers discovered the body of Penny Keprta, 43, of Long Beach, about 1:15 p.m. last Wednesday, said Karen Owens, a Long Beach police spokeswoman. The workers, who were clearing debris from the freeway, found the body along the northbound freeway near the Wardlow Road overpass, she said.
Police believe Keprta was abducted while walking on Wardlow Road to a convenience store between 11 p.m. and 2 a.m. Wednesday, Owens said. Detectives are awaiting test results to determine whether Keprta was sexually assaulted, she said.
