Wolf, Kapler Honored in Arizona Fall League

Randy Wolf, a former El Camino Real High and Pepperdine pitcher who is in the Philadelphia Phillies’ organization, was selected the No. 1 left-handed pitching prospect in the Arizona Fall League in a vote of league managers and coaches.

Gabe Kapler, from Taft High and Moorpark College, was selected the league’s top right fielder.

Kevin O’Malley, son of former Dodger owner Peter O’Malley who played baseball at Harvard-Westlake, was selected last week as assistant general manager for the Stockton Ports of the Class-A California League.

FOOTBALL

Two Valley College football players have signed letters of intent. Wide receiver Milton Wynn, an Antelope Valley High graduate, will attend Washington State. Tight end Scott Collins, who attended Hart, signed with Utah State.

MOTOR SPORTS

The NASCAR Southwest Series begins its 14th season Sunday with a 200-lap race at Tucson Raceway Park.

The 10-month, 18-race season is the largest to date for the NASCAR touring division, with races at Irwindale Speedway and Rocky Mountain Raceways near Salt Lake City added to the circuit.

Top competitors include M.K. Kanke of Granada Hills and Bob Lyon of Agua Dulce.
