Boy, 16, Slain After Firing at Deputies
A 16-year-old Lynwood youth was shot and killed by Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies early Sunday after he opened fire on them twice on an embankment of the Century Freeway, a sheriff’s spokesman said.
The slain youth was identified as Julio Castillo. Two unidentified deputies were hit by shotgun pellets but not seriously injured.
Deputies were responding to a 2 a.m. man-with-a-gun call in what appeared to be a hostage situation. But an unidentified girl who was with Castillo turned out to have gone with him willingly, the spokesman said.
