Two teenagers were being held at juvenile hall after an Oxnard man’s car was allegedly carjacked, authorities said Sunday.

Herlindo Fernandez, 29, was leaving the Pep Boys store in the 1000 block of Oxnard Boulevard at 8 p.m. Saturday when two teenage girls approached him, put a small handgun into his side and ordered him into his car, Oxnard police said.

The victim and the assailants got into his 1985 Ford Thunderbird, and Fernandez drove to the 1500 block of South Oxnard Boulevard, where he was told to pull over and get out of the car.

A few hours later, an Oxnard police officer saw Fernandez’s car near Eliza Court and 1st Street. One teenage girl and two teenage boys were inside. Two attempted to flee the scene when police arrived, but all three were taken into custody.

Fernandez identified a 16-year-old girl as one of the people who took his car. She was taken to juvenile hall on suspicion of kidnapping and carjacking.

A 16-year-old boy was also taken to juvenile hall for an outstanding warrant and for giving a false name.

A 14-year-old boy was questioned by police and released.

Authorities did not release the names of the suspects because they are juveniles.

Fernandez was not injured, and his car was returned to him. Police are continuing the investigation.
