VENTURA — A driver whose blood-alcohol level was more than three times the legal limit is in critical condition after his car hit the center divider of the Ventura Freeway north of Victoria Avenue early Sunday, authorities said.
Moris Quiroz, 25, entered the southbound Ventura Freeway about 1:10 a.m. traveling about 80 mph when his car drifted across two lanes and into the center divider, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The vehicle then spun across the freeway and hit a guardrail, authorities said. Ventura city firefighters extracted Quiroz from the car and transported him to Ventura County Medical Center. The Newbury Park resident suffered seven broken ribs, a fractured collarbone and a collapsed lung, authorities said.
The CHP will recommend that drunk-driving charges be filed against Quiroz as soon as he is released from the hospital, officers said.
