Council to Consider Housing Proposal

Share

The City Council, acting as the Community Development Commission, is considering a plan to establish housing rehabilitation and home-buyer assistance programs in the Historical Enhancement and Revitalization of Oxnard redevelopment district.

The recommendation calls for $200,000 to be used for the district’s grant and loan program, and $62,500 would be used as supplemental aid for buyers at Casa Marina Village downtown, around 8th and 9th streets.

Owner-occupied properties in the Rose Park, Cypress and Blackstock North neighborhoods would be eligible for participation.

The City Council established the redevelopment project area last April, said Richard Maggio, director of community development and special projects.

The proposed rehabilitation program for existing housing would meet the goal of redeveloping the project area, and the proposed home-buyer program would implement a citywide goal of encouraging home ownership for low-income families, officials said.
